Oracle Application Express (APEX)

Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) is a rapid web application development tool for the Oracle database.

Using only a web browser and limited programming experience, you can develop and deploy professional applications that are both, fast and secure. At the same time, APEX is also the end user framework.

Forms and reports could be integrated as well as graphical user interface components (charts or calendar functions).

Outgrown Access applications could be consolidated to the Oracle database with an APEX Web front end.

The latest release APEX 4.0 is offering new features, as for example Websheets.

Websheets is a quick and easy way to get content on the web. Whether that content is a text, an images, a report or a chart, it all can be integrated into a web sheet application. Most importantly, both the content and the structure are controlled by its users. If you have the data you need within your database, expose it in a report or include that data on a page. If you need to manage your own data, use a data grid (which can then be referenced in page reports).

Oracle APEX is a fully supported, no cost option of the Oracle database.

Benefits of APEX:

  • APEX Applications are browser language independent
  • APEX is a no cost option for Oracle databases (since 9.2.0.3)
  • Since Release 11.1 APEX is already fully integrated
  • All information are contained in the Oracle database for backup and recovery.
  • Spreadsheets could be converted to Web applications where they can be concurrently viewed and edited.
  • APEX could also be used for Master Data Management and for creating reports and charts.
